France is by far the most popular destination for skiing in Europe. Indeed, winter sports fans are being spoilt for choice, with people coming from all over the globe to have the opportunity to ski on some of the best slopes and glaciers in the world.
With over 300 ski resorts divided between six splendid mountain regions: the Alpes, the Pyrenees, the Massif Central, Les Vosges and the Jura, the resorts cater for Alpine, Nordic skiing and of course other winter sports.
The French Alpes is the largest and one of the most renowned for Alpine skiing, with favoured resorts like “Les 3 Vallées” (Meribel, Courchevel, Les Ménuires, Val Torens…), Le Val d’Isère and Chamonix. The region also hosted the Winter Olympics multiple times, the last being held in Albertville in 1992, and of course FIS Alpine Ski World Cup races are held in the country each year.
